At Lake Stevens Dental Clinic, we have a strong commitment to your child’s overall dental health. With all that children can get into, it may seem like a daunting task to keep their teeth healthy. Fortunately, our dentist and his team have a strong drive to provide protection for your child’s teeth as well as supply the education required to avoid potential problems in the future.
Child dental care can begin even before the first tooth has appeared. As an infant, bacteria can build up in the baby’s gums from lingering formula or milk. To help prevent this you can use a gentle moist cloth to wipe away any excess fluids left behind after feeding.
During the teething process, your child is likely to experience discomfort and soreness in their gums. To help ease the pain, you can gently wipe the gums with a cold washcloth or give your child a chilled teething ring.
Most often a child’s first tooth will appear around 6 months of age. Following that, more teeth will continue to erupt until the child is about 3 years old. As these small teeth begin to emerge, you should take special care to use a soft-bristled brush to gently clean your child’s teeth. For children under the age of two, make sure to use a child-friendly toothpaste. After two years of age, it is recommended that you clean your child’s teeth twice a day, using only a small amount of toothpaste.
