Fred Chittenden, DDS
Dr. Fred was born and raised in California but moved to the Seattle area to attend U.W to study electrical engineering. Fred got a work/study job at Lockheed but decided he’d rather work with people. He changed his direction toward becoming a dentist. He enrolled at UCSB and did graduate work in molecular biology with an emphasis in double stranded RNA. Dr. Fred went on to graduate from UCSF Dental School in 1979. He moved back to the Seattle area after completing dental school and was an associate dentist for several years, before opening his own office in beautiful Lake Stevens in 1986.
When Dr. Fred is not with patients, he spends his free time with his wife Laura in nearby rural Snohomish. They have a daughter who is a nurse in Seattle, and a son who is in dental school.
Dr. Fred plays a lot of tennis, is a fan of skiing, biking and more. He’s an avid backpacker with 30 weeks of off-trail experience in the deep wilderness of Yosemite as well as many other places around the West and Canada.
There are many photos of a wide range of subjects and locations taken by Dr. Fred that are on display in the waiting room.
Dr. Fred is also a Grandmaster Pro Disc Golfer having started playing back in the 1970s. He designed and placed the Lake Stevens Disc Golf course next to Pilchuck Elementary School about 3 blocks from the office. It’s one of the more interesting and uniquely challenging disc golf courses around.

Patient Care Coordinator
Mary started in the dental field in 1983 as a dental assistant in Seattle. She relocated to Everett in 1987 and started working with Dr. Fred in 1986. She has been working at this amazing office for 28 years and loves every day of it. Her patients are more like her family. She knows almost all of them by name. She loves what she does here at Lake Stevens Dental.
When she is not working, her passions are her horses and animals. She loves to garden and spend time outdoors. When she is not in the clinic, our patients know she is with her other love, Hawaii! Mary travels to Hawaii as often as we will allow her to leave us. Aloha!
Laura graduated U.C Davis in 1976 with A B.S. in Dietetics. She moved on to an internship with the North Shore School District, where after she became an administrative dietitian at Swedish Hospital. Laura married Dr. Fred in 1985 and they have 2 children. Their daughter is a nurse in Seattle and their son is in Dental School.
When not working, Laura likes to be in the outdoors. She spends her free time biking, hiking and skiing. She also spends a lot of time in their yard at home. With 5 acres they have a lot of yard work to do.
Laura is full of information about dentistry and nutrition, so feel free to stop in and ask her questions.
Check back soon to meet Jamie!
